What Is an International Driving Permit?

An International Driving Permit (IDP) is a translation of your valid U.S. driver’s license that allows you to drive in many foreign countries.

It is commonly required by rental car agencies and may be requested by local authorities while driving abroad and must be used with your valid U.S.license.

Important: This permit is not valid for use inside the United States.

Who Can Apply?

You must have a valid U.S. driver’s license

No driving test is required

The permit is valid for one year from the date of issue.
